my delightful pal P was kind enough to take me to a screening last night for THIS MOVIE. a romantic comedy, right? WRONG. it’s basically an after schoolish special about the negative effects of someone fresh out of rehab (hathaway) at an important family affair. i won’t say much, because somehow this film will probably be released, and you may want to spend $117.95 or however much it costs to go to the movies these days. but there were so many problems i don’t know where to begin. from the try-hard cinematography and editing (or lack thereof), to the fact that hathaway can’t do drama, to the overly-sensitive father who kept pawing at people and groping their jowls, to the girl sobbing next to me, it just. made me. want to. laugh. but i didn’t. okay, i did, but hopefully it sounded like sobbing. which is what this film makes you want to do. don’t succumb!

we got out of the movie and had some rolls and drinks at fuji like old times. i say “like old times” because it’s across the street from the hearst tower. afterwards i felt the need to take 25 pictures of the building because even though i worked there for two and a half years, i have extreme tourist tendencies (ETT) and i’m really good at becoming nina from north dakota. i think it’s a gift. and i’m not just saying that. so hearst is a really serious place to work. when you walk in there’s a waterfall and a major escalator that whisks you up to the elevators which then lift you up, up, and away to some of the most influential magazines of our time, like cosmo girl and house beautiful. because of all of this talent that is bubbling over onto W. 57th street, it’s important to advertise on the outside of the building to make sure that not only do people know how impressive everyone is inside of it, but that the people on the outside can try their luck at working there too. as shown below, they’ve blown up pictures of some choice employees and stuck them onto the ground floor windows, just like those easter egg decals you can buy at duane reade for your 11 year olds bedroom window. because that wasn’t quite dramatic enough, they went ahead and added thought bubbles with honest comments about working at hearst and it wraps around the building. behind the stickers are mirrors so you can reflect on whether or not you’re as pretty as these people, but you’re probably not, but if you think you are, you can apply and maybe one day you too will have your very own picture and bubble. and maybe it will even be next to buggs bunny because did i mention they also have cartoon characters? i’m sure if william randolph were still alive today, this is exactly what he would have envisioned for his original six-story structure.
